Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident made him speechless and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
