Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his own means, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as important members in the powerful family could enable the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
