The nail-biting extra-inning clash where the Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a aggregate 51M spectators across the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic finale since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic contest secured over 27 million audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English program in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series averaged 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total US average was 16.1M. The overall World Series average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an 8% increase over the previous year and Fox’s best playoff performance since 2017.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 various languages.
