The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Developer to Revitalize Troubled Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Follows Mixed Response

The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing early showing last autumn.

Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a distinct direction.

The president stated that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to better meet community desires.

Trend of Strategic Hires

This announcement echoes a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.

Here is the entire text from the president's communication:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”

Given your hard work and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It revealed the need for a clearer brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to achieve its promise to our fans.

The belief in this project strengthens every day. To further the incredible development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the new Lead of 31st Union. After several months of talks, Ben comes aboard us on next week.

His guidance and background in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years developing and leading some of the most recognizable titles in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in receiving Ben soon. We are all excited to keep seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the weeks to come.

David

Background of the Incoming Head

The appointee presently holds the position of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in multiple development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, before that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Vision

The upcoming game was announced in last year together with a public demo. Then, the developers presented the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the category."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the description states. "Face the opponents with new abilities, risks, and challenges that evolve every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and hope your squad can earn top ranking? The choice is in your hands."

The game lacks an confirmed debut schedule or consoles, but fans can anticipate additional details as production advances.
