The platform is rolling out a updated setting that enables them to cut down on the amount of AI-made videos appearing in their feeds. This step comes as the company announced that it now features more than 1 billion AI-generated clips.
Pilot Phase and Launch
This change is being tested over the next few weeks before a full-scale rollout. This advancement aligns with a surge in AI-generated material, driven by recent content generation software.
AI Proliferation Online
Recent reports that nearly one in 10 of the quickest rising content creators on a competing service exclusively feature AI-generated videos. A significant portion of this output is deemed low-quality AI content, a term for poor-quality, factory-style content that is often nonsensical or surreal.
“We know from our community that many people appreciate content produced via AI tools, including AI artwork to educational videos, and we want to provide users the option to adjust the amount of that, based on their own likes,” commented a company executive.
Scale of AI Content
The platform announced that there are now over a billion videos on its app tagged as artificially created. Collectively, more than 100 million pieces of content are added to the platform daily, making AI-generated material a relatively small percentage of its overall inventory.
How to Adjust Settings
Users will be able to limit or boost the level of AI-generated videos they see by opening the topic control setting in the app and choosing “AI-generated content”. Additional categories that are already be adjusted under the setting include news, fashion, cosmetics, and movement.
Platform Guidelines
The platform’s rules mandate creators to label “realistic” artificially created content, and it prohibits dangerous deepfakes of celebrities or emergencies. Any authentic-looking AI-generated clip that is without a tag can be taken down under its terms of service.
Furthermore, the app will now attach an “AI-made” tag to content created with its proprietary AI systems, or identified by an cross-platform project for identifying AI-generated material. This step is intended to deter users from trying to evade the labeling process.
AI Literacy Programs
The company is also launching a two million dollar educational fund for specialists and organizations to produce educational content about responsible artificial intelligence. This program will assist non-profit groups dedicated to educating programming and robotics.
Platform Protection
TikTok has justified its safety measures, amid discussion over intentions to make redundant hundreds of safety staff in the United Kingdom. TikTok is expected to cut a significant number of roles in its user protection division in the UK capital, with trade unions and digital protection specialists voicing alarm that people are being substituted by automated systems.
A trust and safety lead explained that people-led review would continue to be important, but artificial intelligence can safeguard staff by filtering out the most graphic content prior to it gets reviewed by humans. TikTok announced a notable drop in explicit and harmful content reviewed by content reviewers over the last 12 months due to intervention by its AI tools.
“We think that it’s essential to balance people and machines to maintain a secure environment,” she said. “We’ll have staff as integral to the approach, but we further consider it’s highly necessary to limit contact with harmful content as rapidly, which is why a significant AI assistance is proving valuable work at speed.”
